History
Our work falls into three broad categories:
Restoration,
Special Commissions
and the building of a Standard Collection. |
There is a valuable symbiosis between restoring old work and developing
new. Our experience over the last ten years as restorers of original
Coade ware has influenced our own designs and methods, and helped
us to seamlessly match original fragments with fresh modelling where
necessary. At the same time, generating entirely new works has given
us a better grasp of the problems faced by the original makers.
Our
special commissions range from full scale architectural projects
to smaller items to fulfill particular requirements. As well as
welcoming anything that can exploit the considerable potential of
terracotta, we still occasionally undertake work in natural stone.
Before starting THOMASONCUDWORTH, Philip Thomason
worked for twenty years as a master carver on many major buildings,
from Wells Cathedral to Westminster Abbey.
Our
steadily expanding standard collection includes many urns, figures
and miscellaneous items. Some are based on 18th century originals,
while others we have designed ourselves.
